Hackney Fact: overall crime in Hackney has fallen 34% since 2004. There are 8,000 fewer victims of crime in 2007/08 compared to 2004/05.
The Safer Cleaner Partnership aims to ensure that Hackney is a place where people feel safe in their homes and can walk the streets, day or night, without fear of intimidation or harassment, and can enjoy living in a safe, clean and green borough.
The partnership has identified the following local priorities:
The co-chairs of the Safer Cleaner Partnership are Tim Shields, Chief Executive, London Borough of Hackney, and ,The Borough Commander, of Hackney Police.
The Safer Cleaner Partnership is Hackney's Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) and is responsible for achievement of the safer, cleaner outcomes set out in Hackney’s Community Strategy and Local Area Agreement
The partnership includes statutory bodies such as Hackney Council, Hackney Police, City & Hackney Primary Care Trust, the Learning Trust, and the London Fire Brigade and also selected representatives of the community and voluntary sector.
The partnership comprises a decision making strategic board, five strategic sub groups each dealing with a particular theme and a performance co-ordinating group. It forms an important part of the family of Team Hackney partnerships and has formal links to the Better Homes and Children and Young People Partnerships. The partnership is also supported by a range of operational groups which feed into the relevant strategic sub groups.
Hackney has 19 Safer Neighbourhoods teams, one for each ward in the borough. For more information click here for your local Hackney Neighbourhood team's contact details.
Hackney has a Community Engagement Board. This is an independent body set up to inform, and receive feedback from residents about local crime and community safety issues.
The Team Hackney Adviser for the Safer Cleaner Partnership is Jack Hopkins, who can be reached on 020 8356 5321 jack.hopkins@hackney.gov.uk for more information.
