Hackney libraries will be hosting events that are packed and diverse than ever – including the hidden history of Black classical musicians; an exploration of the contribution of the African-Caribbean and Chinese communities through their archives and the opportunity to find out about mentoring and citizenship schemes with Operation Black Vote. There’s also an extensive programme for children and young people.
In addition, schools will be hosting events throughout the month, supported by the Learning Trust. Hackney’s libraries will be celebrating Black achievement by highlighting the major contribution to modern day living made by Black African and Caribbean individuals and showcasing some of the community’s more modern day talents. They will also be hosting a wide range of events, and competitions for children and young people.
Nearly all the events are free but sometimes you may need to book in advance so please check relevant details in the programme and keep an eye on the website for new additions and events. Here in Hackney we celebrate Black culture and achievement all year round so sign-up to our mailing lists at the events to keep in the loop.
