Hackney is Most Improved Council while Team Hackney is Highly Commended at LGC Awards
Jules Pipe, the Mayor of Hackney and Chair of Team Hackney, has thanked everyone associated with Team Hackney who played a part in helping the Council to win the award for Most Improved Council at the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards last month.
Writing in the April issue of Team Hackney Update (www.teamhackneyupdate.org.uk) he also congratulated everyone involved in Team Hackney for being highly commended as Best Local Strategic Partnership.
In his Welcome column, Jules Pipe writes: “The Award and the commendation recognise the hard work of everyone who delivers services within Hackney, both statutory and third sector partners, and reflect our shared vision and joint commitment to making Hackney a great place to live and work in. Hackney is now nationally recognised as a place that demonstrates innovation, improvement and ambition, both with the LGC Award and the two recent awards for Beacon status.
“There was also positive news from Ben Page, Managing Director, Ipsos MORI Public Affairs at a recent preview of the Ipsos MORI Place Survey results given to managers and partners. These show a continued rise in satisfaction with living in Hackney among Hackney residents - a 12 point increase since 2006 when the last survey was carried out. A more detailed summary and a link to the full published report will appear in a future issue of Team Hackney Update.
“National recognition for Hackney is welcome - and recognition from residents even more so - but there are still many improvements needed to the lives of people living and working in Hackney, not least in response to the continuing economic downturn. Reducing crime and the fear of crime, and improving educational attainment are two key areas for improvement.
“The launch of the Safer Hackney residents' newsletters, the arrival of a new Anti-Social Behaviour Team at the Council, and the continuing drive to improve reading among vulnerable primary school children in Hackney, are just three examples of Team Hackney-funded activity reported in this month's Update which tackle these issues in different ways.
“Hackney's ambitious vision for the next ten years owes much to the partnership work carried out more than a year ago and can be seen in the newly-published and refreshed document, Hackney's Sustainable Community Strategy 2008-2018. A copy can be downloaded from www.hackney.gov.uk/scs.pdf
“Finally, I would like to say thank you on behalf of the partnership to Chief Superintendent Steve Dann, who is leaving Hackney to take up a promotion as Assistant Chief Constable of the Hampshire and Isle of White Constabulary. Steve leaves a strong legacy and we are sorry to see him go, but wish him all the best.
With best wishes
Jules Pipe, Mayor of Hackney and Chair of Team Hackney.
