The Economic Development Partnership brings partners together to ensure that the economic agenda is taken forward in a coherent way to maximise investment in the borough.

The key priority for the EDP in 2007/8 is to deliver the Economic Development Block of the Hackney Local Area Agreement (LAA). The outcomes and targets for the LAA were agreed based on an analysis of Hackney’s economic landscape. The main economic development targets in the LAA are to:

• Increase employment rate of lone parents
• Increase employment rate of residents who have been claiming IB for more than six months, with a focus on those with mental health support needs
• Support economically inactive residents into sustainable employment of 16 hours or more per week for 13 consecutive weeks.
• Support 18-24 year old residents to achieve skills for life qualifications up to entry level three.
• Support residents in employment in priority sectors to achieve skills for life qualifications up to entry level three through in work skills development so they can progress onto level 2 and above (training available through Train to Gain).
  

The Chair of the Economic Development Partnership is Councillor Guy Nicholson, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
