What is Hackney Community Engagement Board?
The Community Engagement Board, established in early 2008, is funded by the Metropolitan Police Authority to inform community members about local crime and community safety issues and to help them to monitor and influence the types of activities undertaken and inform future priorities.
The aims of Hackney Community Engagement Board are:
Board members:
Board members are drawn mainly from community and voluntary sector organisations in the borough, including those representing minority groups, victimised groups and those that have been previously underrepresented. The 2009/10 elections for the Board took place on 20 May 2009. The key members voted onto the Board are:
The Chair - John Howard
The Vice Chairs - Reverend April Keech and Rhasan Brunner
The Treasurer - Sheila Suso-Runge

The Board’s quarterly public meetings provide a forum for local police to report back to the community on local policing tactics and initiatives. It allows the community to raise probing questions with the Police and Council on policing and community safety issues. Previous meetings have energetically addressed topics such as Young People and Crime, Serious Violent Crime and Volunteering.
